을/를: what do you eat or read?
Attach the object particle and combine a noun with an action.
을/를 marks the object of many action verbs. Use 을 after a final consonant and 를 after a vowel. 책을 읽어요 means “read a book”; 물을 마셔요 means “drink water”.
I read a book.
I drink water.
I drink coffee.
Examples in this unit are text-based. No pronunciation recording or automatic speaking score is used.
책 and 물 end in consonants, so use 책을 and 물을. 커피 ends in a vowel, so use 커피를. 읽다 → 읽어요; 마시다 → 마셔요. The particle stays attached to its noun. Objects may be omitted in conversation, but keep them visible for this practice.
