에 and 에서: going, being and doing
Distinguish a destination, a location of presence and a location of action.
학교에 가요 gives a destination. 학교에 있어요 gives a location of presence. 학교에서 공부해요 gives the location where studying happens.
I go to school.
I am at school.
I study at school.
I read a book at home.
Examples in this unit are text-based. No pronunciation recording or automatic speaking score is used.
In this small set, 가요 uses destination 에, 있어요 uses location 에, and 공부해요/읽어요 use action-location 에서. 집 means home. These particles have other uses; this distinction is for the patterns taught here.
